Nearly 1,000 Polish Towns to Host Three Kings’ Processions on Epiphany: A Public Witness to the Gospel

Poland — On Tuesday, January 6, the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord, colorful processions celebrating the historic visit of the Magi will traverse the streets of 941 towns and cities across Poland. Organized by the Orszak Trzech Króli Foundation, this annual procession has become one of the nation’s largest popular expressions of faith, blending tradition, community, and Gospel witness in public life.

Under this year’s theme, “Nadzieją się cieszą!” (“They Rejoice in Hope!”)—drawn from a traditional Polish carol—the events recall the journey of the Three Wise Men who, guided by the Star of Bethlehem, found the Christ Child and offered their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh in worship. The symbolic march of kings representing Europe, Asia, and Africa underscores the universal call of Christ to all peoples.

Across Poland, hundreds of thousands of participants, young and old alike, will don paper crowns and hymnbooks, sing carols in public squares, and reenact the journey of the Magi. In Warsaw, the celebration begins with the Angelus prayer led by the Archbishop, followed by a procession culminating in prayerful homage before the manger scene at Plac Zamkowy.

This tradition, which began in Warsaw in 2009 and has since spread nationwide and abroad, combines cultural celebration with catechesis, offering a visible testimony to the Epiphany’s central truth: that Christ is the light of all nations. As Pope Francis wrote to participants in recent years, these parades are a joyful public tribute that unites families and local communities in faith, encouraging believers to reflect on their own journey toward Christ.

For Catholics, the Feast of the Epiphany is more than a cultural custom—it marks a key moment in salvation history as recounted in Matthew’s Gospel, where the Magi’s pilgrimage reveals the revelation of Jesus as the Savior of the world.

Reflection and Call to Spiritual Renewal

As Polish Catholics take to the streets in procession, the faithful everywhere are invited to reflect on the deeper significance of the Epiphany: that Christ draws all peoples to Himself, not merely in pageantry but in prayer, conversion, and sacramental life. The journey of the Magi reminds us that faith requires movement—leaving the familiar, seeking Christ, and offering Him the best of our hearts.

Today’s invitation for every believer is to respond to this revelation by:

  • Seeking forgiveness in the Sacrament of Confession, opening our hearts to God’s mercy.
  • Entering into deeper union with Christ through Eucharistic Adoration.
  • Strengthening our devotion by praying the Holy Rosary, contemplating the mysteries of salvation.
  • Participating in Holy Mass with renewed reverence, especially to receive Holy Communion worthily, allowing Christ’s presence to illuminate our lives and communities.

In following the Magi’s example of faithful pilgrimage, may we too find Christ—His light guiding our steps in every season of life.
